Histoire
The original Air Jordan 7 was released in 1992 in a "Raptor" colorway. Jordan Brand used this colorway as inspiration when designing the Air Jordan MVP 678 Raptors.
Although this mostly black Air Jordan is clearly based on the original AJ7, it actually includes elements from the Air Jordan 6, 7, and 8 sneakers. Hints of the AJ6, for example, can be spotted in both the midsole of this sneaker and in the rubber piece used to create the top of the sneaker's tongue. The AJ7, meanwhile, shows up in both the lower part of the tongue and in the colors utilized on the sneaker. The AJ8 makes its presence felt through the design of the mudguard on the shoe.
Our experts appreciate how each of these Air Jordans helped contribute to the formation of a new AJ sneaker in the end. It helps celebrate the Jordans that came before it, while also adding to the brand's legacy in its own unique way. The Air Jordan MVP 678 Raptors was released on June 20, 2023, when it initially retailed for $165.
